50 Young Adults Attend Ballad of Emmett Till

Ballad of Emmett Till

More than 50 young adults attended Houston’s Ensemble Theatre’s production of The Ballad of Emmett Till on February 5, sponsored by the Commission on Black Ministry. Following the play, participants had the opportunity to spend time with the actors who explained how challenging it was to present a story with such a tragic end.

Emmett Till, a young African-American from Chicago, was murdered in Mississippi at the age of 14. His death was a pivotal event in the Civil Rights Movement. The Ballad of Emmett Till is told through contemporary prose and jazz.

This was the first time many of the young adults had experienced live theater and most had been unfamiliar with Till’s story and its impact on the Black experience in American history.
