Ascension, Houston, Celebrates 50 Years

Ascension Episcopal Church, Houston, will celebrate their 50th anniversary, June 2-5, 2011. The three-day event will gather former and current parishioners and provides the opportunity for fellow members to become reacquainted.  Photos, scrapbooks and memorabilia from each of the five decades at Ascension will be on display.

Bishop Andy Doyle will lead the evening worship on Thursday, June 2 beginning at 7 p.m.  On Saturday, participants may play gold at the Clear Creek golf Course, or tennis at Lakeside Tennis Courts. There is a noon luncheon with the latest gossip on the British royal wedding by local royal watcher Cathy Hollowell. Having previously shared similar tidbits about her experiences with the royal family, Hollowell’s latest show, delivered with her humorous style and wit, will prove illuminating. Hats welcome.

Festivities continue on Saturday at 6 p.m with an anniversary dinner party, a prim time to circulate and greet friends from years ago.  Sunday worship (at 8 and 10:30) conclude the festivities with a dedication of the Memorial Walkway following the 10:30 service.  Pavers have been purchased in thanksgiving for the various lives that have journeyed in faith at Ascension through the years.

Many parishioners will offer their homes to lodge former members. Contact the church office at 713.781.1330 or Carol Smith at 713.784.5033 to make arrangements. Hilton Hotel Westchase has rooms for $89 with a shuttle to the church. Call the Hilton at 713.974.1000.
