Austin Musician Plays at New Church Campus

Singer-songwriter Kim Simpson to Release Retrospective CD and Play at Good Shepherd on the Hill

In the first of a projected concert series, Good Shepherd on the Hill, a second campus of Good Shepherd, Austin, will host a performance by Austin singer-songwriter, guitar virtuoso and radio host Kim Simpson on Friday, August 12 at 7:30 p.m.

The concert coincides with the release of Simpson’s Songs and Sightings 1992-2014, a newly remastered retrospective collection.

Simpson, a 1993 Austin transplant from Salt Lake City, has quietly cultivated a reputation for lyrical compositions such as the perplexed-preacher song “Midnight Apparitions,” the medieval morality tale “Simon St. Claire,” and “Looking for That Girl,” an NPR song of the day in 2006. His live performances feature a multilingual song library, while his flair for fingerstyle guitar can be heard on releases like “Mystery Lights” and “Tex Mex Guitar.”

In addition to his activities as a musician, many Austinites recognize Simpson’s voice as a radio programmer. He currently hosts KOOP’s International Folk Bazaar (Wednesdays at noon) and co-hosts Around the Town Sounds (Thursdays at noon), and he was also a longtime co-host on KUT’s Folkways. A scholar of pop music and radio history, Kim authored the book Early ‘70s Radio, which Continuum published in 2011.

Visit Simpson’s website for more information including a full bio and music samples.

A $10.00 donation is suggested. This event is BYOB, with additional refreshments to be provided.
