Bastrop Still Needs Volunteers in Wildfire Recovery

Missionpalooza 2012_2After the devastating fires which burned 1691 homes in Bastrop County, Texas in September 2011, Bastrop County Long Term Recovery Team (BCLTRT) was formed to help the uninsured and under-insured rebuild their lives.

Volunteer groups have been working continually in the area, under the guidance of BCLTRT, with work assigned to their skill level. Many homes have been funded and rebuilt and gradually property is being restored. Groups have been travelling from all parts of the United States and Canada. However, there is still a long way to go.

Accommodation for volunteer groups is available at Faith Village in Smithville. Faith Village is a joint effort of the Baptist, United Methodist, Presbyterian and Episcopal Churches. On a day to day basis it is run by a village manager and there is a charge of $20 per person per day which includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. Registration for accommodation is only through their website.

There have been groups in size from 1 to 50 stay at Faith Village and they would love to welcome you for 1 day or more. If you want more information please contact Deacon Gill Keyworth at Spring is here in Texas and it is time to begin planning your mission trips for all ages.
