Bishops’ Spouses and Partners Plan Full Agenda at General Convention

Bishops’ spouses and partners attending General Convention will get a real taste of Texas during their time together. Susan Fisher, wife of Bishop Suffragan Jeff Fisher has been part of a planning group that has planned a meticulous 10-day agenda during the Church’s triennial gathering in Austin, July 5-13.  Activities will focus on the missional and community work the Diocese of Texas does in the Austin area. Participants will tour the Seminary of the Southwest and El Buen Samaritano, a diocesan social service agency that provides affordable health, education and human services. Additionally, the group will tour Community First! Village, a 27-acres master planned community that provides affordable, permanent housing and a supportive community for the disabled, chronically homeless in Central Texas. Many Austin area Episcopal churches participate in the Mobile Loves & Fishes, which developed the community.

Not all is work and business, spouses and partners will also get to have their share of fun. Participants will learn about the spirituality of yoga, tour the LBJ Library and take a Duck Boat Tour to get a different point of view of Austin. Lastly, no trip to Austin would be complete without a visit to the Santa Rita Tex-Mex Cantina.
