Relief work in West, Texas

On Wednesday, May 22nd, 27 teams gathered on a beautiful day at the Cypresswood Golf Course in Houston for the 7th Annual Brotherhood of St. Andrew Golf Tournament. The tournament was followed by a BBQ Lunch.

The Awards ceremony was started with the recognition of the sponsorship of the Tournament with certificates being presented by Brother Pat Parham, Texas Assembly President. The recognition was presented to Discount Tire for being the Tournament Sponsor, Almac Environmental Services as the Title sponsor and to Tom Peacock Cadillac for providing the Cadillac for the Hole in One competition.

The Tournament has been very successful in raising money for Brotherhood ministry purposes. The primary focus is to raise funds for the Fall Boys Retreat in October at Camp Allen Campsite 3 which is an event tailored to expose boys 2nd to 6th grades to Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Recent years this focus has been to inner city youth in Houston's Fourth Ward. As there was additional funds available, Bishop Suffragan Jeff Fisher received four one thousand dollar ceremonial checks. The first was to the Diocese of Texas for the relief effort in West, Texas. The second check was to assist in the support of the Seafarers ministry. The third check was for the support of two campers to Camp Good News. The fourth check was to the support of the Fall Retreat inside the walls of the Wayne Scott Unit which is a Brotherhood supported event coordinated by the Chapter at St. Timothy's, Lake Jackson.

In addition to the door prizes of around 100 rounds of Golf at various Houston golf courses, there were awards for the Longest Drive, Longest Putt and the Closet To the Pin. Landon Ewing from the Trinity Church, The Woodlands, team received a Men's Backdraft GT Plus Putter for winning the Longest Drive. John Bergeron of Steve Warwick team from Good Shepherd, Friendswood, received a Burner Superfast 2.0 Driver for the Longest Putt. Michael Gay of the St. Timothy's, Lake Jackson, team received a Black VIP Men's Individual Wedge for the Closest To the Pin competition.

Tight competition was evident in the tournament as the majority of the scores were under par with the highest score only 4 over par. The awards for Third and Second place were decided on difficulty of the posted score on individual holes as both teams posted a score of 16 under par. Third place was awarded to Brian Wolf's team from Sugar Land with Second Place being awarded to Scana Offshore Services. First Place and the Brotherhood Traveling Trophy was awarded to Trinity Church, The Woodlands, who posted a score of 19 under par.
