Brotherhood of St. Andrew Golf Tournament Benefits Boys Retreat

St. Andrew Golf Tournament

2011 First Place Team
r to l: John Colbert, Michael Gay, Alan Hammond, Adrain Zabala

Saturday, May 7 was a beautiful day at the Glennloch Pines Golf Course in Spring, Texas where 83 golfers participated in the 5th Annual Brotherhood of St. Andrew Golf Tournament. The proceeds of the tournament will sponsor the Fall Boys Retreat at Camp Allen in October, and the remaining funds will be used to sponsor events around the diocese led by Brotherhood Chapters or Brothers Andrew.

After a lively day of golf, two teams turned in the top score of 59, so the winning team was decided based on the scores on the par-5 holes. The first par-5 hole was a tie. However, on the second hole, the team from St. Timothy’s, Lake Jackson, made birdie while the Tommy Lee’s team from Good Shepherd, Friendswood, registered par. Third place was only one stroke back and was claimed by Chris May’s team from Good Shepherd, Friendswood. Alan Hammond won the driver for the closest to the hole. Andrew Thomason won the putter for the longest drive, and the wedge went to John Carter for the longest putt.

The Tournament was followed by a bar-b-que meal and the awards ceremony. There was a lot of fun, fellowship and tall tales. The Brotherhood of St. Andrew appreciates all of the sponsors who helped to make this a very successful golf tournament.
