All Saints' Works to Increase Presence in Small Community

After entering a Nativity float into the local Christmas parade in 2011, All Saints', Cameron, entered the Nativity scene again in 2012, earning 3rd prize.

Following the Bishop's Evangelism Conference in November of 2011, All Saints', Cameron, was inspired to become more visible in their community and decided to enter the Christmas Parade. To their surprise, they were the only nativity in the parade of more than 50 entries.

"We just wanted to let the community see us as people," said parish administrator Phyllis Davs. "Last year the theme was 'old-fashioned Christmas,' and we thought there was nothing more old-fashioned than the original Christmas, so we did a nativity."

In 2012, the theme was "Texas Christmas," so All Saints just added a few cowboys hats and boots to the angels and the wise men.

The church has also made other attempts to reach out in the community, organizing a "Church Has Left the Building" event, where all the parishioners left the church building one Sunday to help a needy neighbor.

"We've gotten some talk around the town about that," Davis said. "It has created a little buzz."

Eventually the church leaders envision a community-wide event where all the churches take a Sunday to help others.
