Chase Untermeyer Named Chair of St. Luke's Episcopal Health Charities

The Honorable Chase Untermeyer has been named Executive Chair of the St. Luke’s Episcopal Health Charities (the “Charities”) Board of Directors.  The announcement was made by The Rt. Rev. C. Andrew Doyle, IX Bishop of Texas.

Since its founding in 1997, the Charities has funded 1,827 grants totaling more than $88 million to benefit residents of the 57 county Episcopal Diocese of Texas.  With a focus on improving healthcare for underserved communities, it is estimated that more than 16 million people have been served by the Charities.

Untermeyer has served on the Charities' Board of Directors since 2010.  During his two-year term as Executive Chair, Untermeyer's focus will includethe Charities' Center for Collaborative Leadership and its Leadership Academy, as well as building global connections for the Center for Community Based Research and ongoing fundraising.

Past executive chairs of the Charities include Lorne Bain, John Cater, Flo McGee, Judy Tate and, most recently, Michelle Lyn, MD.  During her tenure, Dr. Lyn worked to strengthen the links between St. Luke’s Episcopal Health System, The Episcopal Diocese of Texas and the Charities.

“We are grateful for the commitment and service of Dr. Lyn and all our previous executive chairs," said Bishop Doyle. "We embrace our future with confidence and enthusiasm under the leadership of the Honorable Chase Untermeyer.  The Charities has made substantial contributions to our communities, but many more are to come.  Chase’s national and international experience will define the Charities as a change agent for the underserved, both locally and globally."

Untermeyer has been an international business consultant since returning in 2007 from Qatar, where he served three years as U.S. ambassador on appointment of President George W. Bush. Ambassador Untermeyer has held both elected and appointed office at all four levels of government – local, state, national and international – during a period of almost 35 years, with work in journalism, academia and business as well.

Ambassador Untermeyer is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. In previous part-time public service, he has been member and chairman of the Board of Visitors of the US Naval Academy, a commissioner of the Port of Houston, president of the Houston READ Commission, a member of the board of National Public Radio, member of the Defense Health Board, and chairman of the State Board of Education, appointed by then-Governor George W. Bush.
