Christ Church, Tyler, Donates More Than $10,000 for NetsforLife®

UPDATE: Since this story was first posted, Christ Church, Tyler has received more donations, bringing their totals to $10,451 or 871 nets.

Christ Church, Tyler, recently completed their NetsforLife® campaign, raising $10,297 to purchase insecticide treated mosquito nets for the people of sub-Saharan Africa.

The church set an ambitious goal to provide two mosquito nets per Christ Church family, or approximately 800 nets. Donations, plus matching funds from the Christ Church Mission Fund allowed the parish to surpass their goal, tallying 858 nets for malaria prevention in Africa.

Netsforlife® is a program of Episcopal Relief and Development and a partnership of corporations, foundations, nongovernmental groups and faith based organizations working to fight malaria. Each donated net could save up to three lives. With their donation of 858 nets, Christ Church could save more the 2500 people from malaria.

At Diocesan Council in February, the Diocese of Texas committed to purchasing one net per family within the diocese, or approximately 27,700 nets. By purchasing two nets per family, Christ Church, Tyler has raised the bar.
