Compass Rose Society Names Bishop Doyle President Elect

The board of directors of the Compass Rose Society, an international mission society that supports the work of the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Anglican Consultative Council, has elected the Rt. Rev. C. Andrew Doyle, Bishop of Texas, vice president-president elect to succeed the Rev. Canon John L. Peterson as president of the Society in October 2014.

 

The Society's 2013 annual meeting held in Canterbury, UK last week included a plenary session with The Most Rev. Thabo Makgoba, the Archbishop of South Africa, remarks and a question and answer session with the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Rev. & Rt. Hon. Justin Welby and a plenary session and questions and answers with Mrs. Caroline Welby.

 

The Society elected five new directors to four-year terms:

Michael J. Brown, Montevideo, Uruguay

Bruce F. Chambers, treasurer of the Compass Rose Society of Canada

David J. H. Gannicott, president of the Compass Rose Society of Canada

The Reverend Pamela Cottrell Shier, rector Prince of Peace Episcopal Church, Salem, WV

The Reverend Canon John L. Peterson, president of the Society

 

The board approved a grant to support Bishop Makgoba's project to supply e-readers to seminarians, clergy and lay persons for theological education in his province and a grant to support the Continuing Indaba project in the Anglican Communion.

 

Following the meeting, 27 members of the Society embarked on a Communion Visit to the Diocese of Cape Coast, Ghana.

 

Founded in 1997 with the support of Bishop Claude E. Payne, the Compass Rose Society has more than 300 members in eleven countries. It takes its name from the symbol of the Anglican Communion.
