EDOT Priest Dies in Diving Accident

 

The Rev. Robert Morgan "Bob" Tarbet, Jr., died on Wednesday, April 21, 2016 in a diving accident. While the specific cause is still unknown, Tarbet was a very experienced diver and loved the sport, according to friends. The funeral will be held at St. Alban's, Waco, Saturday, May 7 at 2 p.m. Bishop Dena Harrison will officiate and Bishop Rayford High will assist.

 

Bishop High, former Bishop of Ft. Worth, will preach and celebrate with the congregation of St. Mary's in Hamilton, TX, where Tarbet was serving as permanent supply priest at the time of his death.

 

"Bob has been a friend for many years as was his brother David," Bishop High said. "I'm shocked and so deeply saddened by his loss."

 

Tarbet graduated from the Seminary of the Southwest in 1973 and was ordained deacon and later priest in 1974.  Tarbet served as rector of Trinity, Marble Falls; vicar of St. Luke's, Lindale and Christ Church, Matagorda and as supply following his retirement in 2000. He also served as a chaplain in the US Army from 1977 through 1989.  Tarbet is predeceased by his brother, who also served as a priest of the Diocese of Texas, the Rev. David Tarbet.

 

Condolences may be sent to Tarbet's wife, Beverly and their family, at 121 Goliad Street, McGregor, TX  76657. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, gifts be sent to the "Episcopal Veterans Fellowship" and mailed to:
