EHS Baseball's Matt Fox Named TPSCA Coach of the Year

In his two years as the head baseball coach at Episcopal, Matt Fox and the Knights have only known success.

They are the two-time Southwest Preparatory Conference Division I champions and with only two departing starters from last spring’s squad, they look primed for a possible three-peat even if the season is still about nine months away.

They’ve won nearly 70 games over those two seasons – including a 10-0 mark last year in SPC – and less than 12 hours after the first SPC championship, Fox was rushed to a Houston hospital where his wife gave birth to their first child – a boy.

So with all those new additions to the trophy case and that new addition to the family, it was no surprise – although Fox admitted he was caught off-guard – that Fox has been named the 2011 Texas Private School Baseball Coach of the Year.

“It’s quite an honor,” said Fox. “But it’s also very humbling. And it’s an award that you don’t win by yourself. There are a lot of people heavily involved in the program that work very hard every day that has allowed me to win this award and I am very grateful to those people for their dedication and their commitment. I have a great set of assistant coaches and an outstanding group of players that love the game and play it the right away. Those are the things that allow myself to receive this award, but this is much more than an individual honor. It’s really a tribute to our baseball team and our program and the type of players and coaches that we have.”

He said he has no idea how he was nominated or selected, but is grateful to whoever his nominator was.
