Good Shepherding School Class of 2014 Graduates

Saturday, July 12 was graduation day for the Good Shepherding School for Lay Pastoral Ministry at St. Christopher, League City. Participating 2013 alumni joined the Class of 2014 and faculty for a closing retreat, which followed eight weeks of instruction.

The Rev. Tom Day, rector of St. Christopher, presented a summation lecture, "The Pastoral Care Model of Jesus." The retreat included a clinical practicum at Methodist St. John's Hospital-Clear Lake, Eucharist, and community luncheon with award of certificates. Among the members of the GSS Class of 2014 are 24 new Lay Pastoral Assistants to serve Palmer, Houston; St. Thomas, Nassau Bay; St. George's, Texas City; Good Shepherd, Friendswood; and, St. Christopher, League City!

Plans are underway to take the Good Shepherding School online in 2015, making the coursework more widely available. Upon recommendation by supervising clergy, lecture and interactive testing materials would be available to individual registrants, with models provided to parishes for regular group discussion and the practical establishment of lay pastoral assistant ministry. Other lay ministry training across a number of areas is also part of that vision.
