Grace School Plants Community Orchard

orchard - grace houstonGrace Episcopal Church in Houston broke ground on Monday, August 12, for a community orchard with the planting of an initial five fruit trees:  Satsuma, naval orange, peach, Mexican lime, and papaya.  The dream is to grow fresh fruit as part of a community project with the Grace School children and to share the harvest with the Grace community and our neighbors.

At the groundbreaking, Daniel Coleman gave the school children an introduction about healthy fruit, planting, and caring for the trees. The Rev. Gena Davis led a blessing liturgy for the soil and the trees.  Church members assisted the children as each class eagerly helped to plant a tree.

The orchard project is designed to educate the children about healthy eating and a healthier environment, and to create a healthy, more connected community.
