Holy Spirit Episcopal School Announces New Head of School

The Board of Trustees of Holy Spirit Episcopal School (HSES) announce the selection of Michelle Symonds as the next Head of School for Holy Spirit Episcopal, effective June 1, 2017 following Carol Katrana’s commitment as Interim Head of School.

In making this announcement, Rector and Chairman of the HSES Board of Trustees, The Rev. Josh Condon, wrote: “I am delighted to have Michelle joining our community. We will certainly benefit from Michelle’s background and training in all ages. Over the next several months, Michelle will be spending time on our campus experiencing life as a Saint and beginning the onboarding process with our administrative team and our faculty.”

Symonds appointment follows an extensive national search led by The Education Group out of Dallas, Texas that resulted in a unanimous decision by the eight members of the Head of School Search Committee.

Mrs. Symonds leadership background is extensive and diverse, spanning more than 20 years in Christian schools. Prior to joining HSES, Symonds served as Head of Primary School at St. Francis Episcopal Day School in Houston. In addition, her experience includes serving as Director, Lower School Assistant Principal, Director of Academic Technology, and teacher at Houston-area schools; St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Children’s Place, Presbyterian School, and Alexander Elementary. Mrs. Symonds graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor’s in Child Development and Early Childhood Education and received her M.Ed. in Instructional Technology from University of Houston.

In her spare time, Symonds enjoys teaching yoga, running and spending time with her husband and two children.
