The Houston Chronicle featured Holy Comforter, Spring, in a story leading up to their drive-thru Ash Wednesday offering. Like many churches in the Diocese of Texas, Holy Comforter will offer ashes on the go for people on their way into work. The Rev. Jimmy Abbott noted that after they realized more than 20,000 cars passed their church building every morning, the decision was easy.

Abbott will be administering ashes from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. to mark the beginning of Lent at 2322 Spring Cypress Road in Spring.

From the Houston Chronicle:

Holy Comforter Episcopal Church is on a mission - helping people make time for religion.

The church will host its first "drive-thru" service on Ash Wednesday.

The Rev. Jimmy Abbott invites everyone to stop by the church for a full-service stop - all without leaving the comfort of cars.

"People will be able to pull into our parking lot, and I'll put ashes on their foreheads, ask if they need any prayers and send them on their merry way," he said.

Abbott will be stationed outside all day - from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13. The church is located at 2322 Spring Cypress Road.

Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent, Abbott said, and occurs 46 days before Easter.

The holiday marks the beginning of the 40-day period of prayer and fasting.
