Houston Chronicle Profiles Christ Church Cathedral First 175 Years

Christ Church Cathedral is celebrating 175 years in downtown Houston this year, and the Houston Chronicle took note, detailing the importance of the Cathedral in the history of Houston:

 

"Chartered when Texas still was a republic and Houston, its capital, a whisky-soaked hamlet of a few thousand, the Episcopal church has grown from a congregation of 28 families to a membership of about 3,500 individuals. Once a parish church - the first Episcopal church in Houston, the second in Texas - today the cathedral is the spiritual hub of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas, an entity encompassing 57 counties and 150 congregations."
