Jubilee Ministry Grants Awarded

The Social and Economic Justice Office of the Episcopal Church Center has awarded 103 Jubilee Ministry grants in 50 dioceses for 2010 and 2011 in five categories for more than $157,250 to support mission and ministry throughout the Episcopal Church.

Within the Diocese of Texas, three ministries were selected as Jubilee Ministries: Trinity Center, Austin; St. Vincent's House, Galveston and Camp Good News at Camp Allen.

Jubilee Ministries are congregations or agencies with connections to the Episcopal Church whose mission efforts affect the lives of those in need, addressing basic human needs and justice issues. Grants to Jubilee ministries are awarded annually.

Incorporated in 2000 Trinity Center grew from the concern of parishioners of St. David's, Austin, for people experiencing homelessness, their downtown neighbors, who were living in shelters and on the streets near the church. Trinity Center serves the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of people experiencing homelessness and poverty in Austin.

St. Vincent's House began in 1954 as a small outreach ministry of St. Augustine of Hippo, Galveston, to the youth and residents of Galveston. The ministry is now an urban mission of the Diocese of Texas, serving the disadvantaged, underserved and working poor population of the greater Galveston community with essential programs and services to enhance their mental, physical and spiritual well being.

Camp Good News at Camp Allen is reserved for children whose mother or father is incarcerated. 30 children aged 10-12 and another thirty aged 13-15 are accepted each year for a one week camp. There is no cost to the families for camp.
