June 3 Declared "Joe Reynolds Day" in Houston

Proclamation

Elizabeth Reynolds

WHEREAS, Dean Joe Reynolds received a bachelor of arts from Georgia State University in 1971, master of divinity from the Virginia Theological Seminary in 1974 and has served as dean of Christ Church Cathedral since March 2000; and

 

WHEREAS, Dean Reynolds has served in multiple capacities at numerous churches across the United States including Atlanta, Georgia; Eufaula, Alabama; Potomac, Maryland; Grand Rapids, Michigan, and finally in Houston, Texas; and,

 

WHEREAS, Dean Reynolds has served as chairman of the board at the Beacon, which is operated out of the John S. Dunn Outreach Center, which also includes Brigid’s Hope, the Cathedral Clinic and the Cathedral Justice Project, and,

 

WHEREAS, the Beacon is a day center providing hot meals, clothing, private shower and lavatory facilities, laundry services and case management to help individuals access to services that can assist them in addressing the root causes of their homelessness and begin the process of moving them off the streets and becoming self-sufficient; and,

 

WHEREAS, Dean Reynolds is currently serving on the board of directors and Finance/Audit Committee of St. Luke’s Episcopal Health systems and serves as a board member of the Cathedral House Episcopal School and Cathedral Health and Outreach Ministries;

 

WHEREAS, Dean Reynolds married Elizabeth Childress and together have three grown sons and six grandchildren; and,

 

WHEREAS, the City of Houston commends Dean Joe Reynolds for his many accomplishments and extends best wishes for continued success.

 

THEREFORE, I, Annise D. Parker, Mayor of the City of Houston, hereby proclaim June 3, 2012, as JOE REYNOLDS DAY in Houston, Texas.
