Kanuga Conference Focuses on Historically Black Parishes

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. — Amid times of change and challenge, it might be hard for churches to focus on innovation and opportunity.  The Transformation and Renewal Conference Nov. 13-16 at Kanuga will focus on historically black parishes, which often face declining membership, to create vital congregations by “equipping the saints for ministry.”

The Rev. Junius B. Dotson, senior pastor of Saint Mark United Methodist Church in Wichita, Kan., will give keynote addresses on understanding and applying the principles of innovation to ministry. His church is the largest African-American church in the state with more than 3,500 members.

A dynamic preacher, public speaker and experienced church planter, Dotson is highly respected for his ability to establish networks that get things done in the faith and larger communities. His ministry focuses on training, developing and empowering leaders to establish ministries that address the needs of the whole person.

Workshops will give participants practical, take-home tools on topics including multicultural ministry, engaging youth and young adults, models of mission in thriving congregations and asset-based development.
