League City Community Garden Calls for Volunteers

The donation garden at St. Christopher Episcopal Church, league city, provides fresh organic produce to the food pantry at Interfaith Caring Ministries (ICM) in League City. ICM currently provides grocery assistance to households with individuals currently living at or below the poverty level, within the Clear Creek Independent School District.

The garden adopts the attitude of inclusion and invitation to the individuals it serves, creating a “hand up” opportunity rather than a “hand out” situation.

“This is truly a community outreach project that has surpassed its original scope,” said Ally Hardick, who lovingly tends the community garden. “In addition to providing fresh produce to those in need, the garden has become a wonderful opportunity for education and a great example for stewardship of the limited resources here on our planet. We have hosted many area groups. High school and church youth groups, Scout and environmental groups, and individuals seeking community service hours, have all worked in the garden.”

If you like to dig in the dirt, if your family likes to work together in the out of doors, if you would like to volunteer to work in the garden, you are invited to come out on scheduled work days. All you need is sun screen, gloves and maybe a hat. Garden tools are furnished.

Spring/Summer work days are from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday mornings, and every 2nd Saturday morning from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., weather permitting. The garden is located at 2508 St. Christopher Avenue, in League City.
