Local Artist Donates Stations of the Cross to Good Shepherd, Kingwood

Artist Jessica Dupree

On Palm Sunday, Good Shepherd, Kingwood dedicated Stations of the Cross oil paintings donated by local artist and parishioner, Jessica Dupree. She began painting the images depicting Jesus on the day of his crucifixion about 18 months ago as a way of sharing her talent with her church and to honor her late father, Glen Edward Thurow. She created seven of the paintings over a period of about a year and then did the remaining seven this year during Lent to have them ready for Good Shepherd’s Way of the Cross services at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Good Friday.

Dupree, a native Texan, has been drawing and painting since she could hold a pencil. She has a degree in fine art from the University of Dallas with a concentration in printmaking. She has more than 15 years of teaching experience with charcoal, pastel, watercolor and oil, including an internship at the Fort Worth Modern, teaching art camps at the University of Dallas and teaching at an art school in Los Angeles.  She now lives with her husband, children, and cat in Kingwood where she does freelance illustration and portrait commissions as well as teaching semi-private art lessons to children and adults.
