Lucy Nazro to Step Down as Head of St. Andrew's School, Austin

After more than three decades as Head of School, Lucy Nazro will be stepping down as Head of School at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, Austin, at the end of this school year.  During her tenure, Nazro has helped transform St. Andrew’s from a small elementary school to a preeminent 1-12 college preparatory school with 851 students.

“There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe Lucy Nazro and her transformative impact on St. Andrew’s,” said Catherine Miller, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at St. Andrew’s. “Not only has she inspired faculty and students, but Mrs. Nazro affirms the values and traditions that distinguish a St. Andrew’s education.  Her legacy is profound and enduring.”

Nazro will continue to play a vital role in the next few years at St. Andrew’s as Special Counsel to the Board of Trustees. At the end of this school year, Nazro will begin her duties as a consultant to the school on several key projects including advancement efforts for the school’s endowment fund, supporting the school’s Episcopal identity, and planning for St. Andrew’s 60th Anniversary celebration in 2012 and other major events.

“These many years as Head of St. Andrew’s have been extraordinarily rich and fulfilling for me.  Almost four decades ago I told my husband Phil that what I really wanted to do was head an Episcopal school. I have been truly blessed to be able to do exactly what I dreamed of doing,” said Nazro. “God has blessed our work together during these 32 years. I am enormously proud of this school and what we have built together. It has been my life’s work and together with my family, my life’s joy. The school’s continued success is my utmost desire. I am delighted to continue working to sustain the qualities of St. Andrew’s that make us so special.”

The Board of Trustees plans to seek an interim Head of School in order to allow a more graceful transition of leadership, rather than completing the search for a Permanent Head within a relatively short time frame. In the next few weeks, the Trustees will appoint a search committee and engage a national search firm to help identify a new Head of School.
