Montes to Receive Honorary Doctorate at SSW Commencement

The Rev. Alejandro Montes will receive
an honorary doctorate

Seminary of the Southwest will hold its sixty-third Commencement on Tuesday morning, May 13th at 10 a.m. at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Austin.

Dr. Justo González, Cuban American historian, theologian and author will preach at Holy Eucharist for Commencement. The seminary will award the honorary doctor of divinity to González and to the Rev. Alejandro Montes, the founding rector of Iglesia Episcopal San Mateo, the first Spanish speaking mission to become a parish in the United States. Mr. John Jockusch, philanthropist and member of St. David's Episcopal Church, San Antonio, will receive the honorary doctor of humane letters.

Seminarians completing Master of Divinity, MA in Religion, MA in Counseling, MA in Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care, MA in Spiritual Formation and Diploma in Anglican Studies will participate in the commencement service in the company of seminary trustees, faculty, classmates and friends. The public is invited to attend.


Lutheran Seminary Program in the Southwest (LSPS) will present certificates to three graduates of Theological Education for Emerging Ministries.

Southwest and LSPS will honor graduating seniors and honorary degree recipients at Evensong and reception on Monday, May 12th at 6 p.m. at Christ Chapel on the seminary campus.
