Pearland Youth Host Special Needs Prom

St Andrew's youth group hosted their second prom for the special needs young adults in Pearland, Saturday, April 13. St. Andrews youth, known as Fusion, chose a Masquerade Ball as their theme and encouraged everyone to wear Special Needs Promdecorative masks.

Youth greeted each of their guests with either a handmade corsage or boutonniere, setting the tone for this special night. The guests were escorted to their table and served dinner. Everyone danced and enjoyed taking pictures in the photo booth. Everyone had a wonderful time.

Youth volunteers doubled from last year's event. One of the junior high boys shared after the event that he felt so good, he couldn’t stop smiling! This marked the third dance Fusion has hosted for the young adults.

During the first prom last year, the guests were so excited to see their friends, many of whom they hadn’t seen since aging out of the school system. Now, the guests are also excited to see the youth and adult sponsors, their new friends.

Fusion has also had the opportunity to get to know many of their parents. Most of them stay for the festivities and are extremely complementary of how engaged the youth are with the guests. The youth have all said they have never had a better time at a dance. While serving a group that isn’t concerned with looking cool or what anyone thinks about their dance moves, the excitement and enthusiasm is contagious.

Fusion youth felt a desire to serve the special needs population in Pearland. They wanted to help in some way. Little did they know, what a blessing they would receive from having fun and dancing!
