Recognizing an extraordinary life of accomplishments, Seminary of the Southwest awarded an honorary doctorate to the Rev. Alejandro Montes at their Commencement ceremonies on Tuesday. Montes is the first person in his family to ever receive a doctorate, a well-deserved honor for a man transcended humble beginnings to eventually lead San Mateo Episcopal Church to become the first Spanish-speaking church in the U.S. to achieve parish status.
