This year’s Silver Tea for St. James House raised nearly $90,000 to help support needed improvements and amenities at the Diocesan retirement community in Baytown. Al and Melissa Grobmyer graciously hosted this year’s tea, an annual event held in Houston.

“Last year we bought some new furniture for our common areas, new blankets and several new beds,” Nolting said. “This year, we were thrilled to honor the Guild Shop and Louise Symmes, their recently retired executive director, for the years of support St. James House has received from them.”

St. James House Board President Pam Nolting, Executive Director Wes Bard, Silver Tea Chair Connie Brown and hostess, Melissa Grobmyer gathered to greet guests at this year’s event that raised nearly $90,000.

Nolting said the Guild Shop, which started in 1962 by the Sewing Group from St. John the Divine, Houston, has donated more than $250,000 annually for the last few years, and over the years the sum is more than several million dollars. These funds support programs at St. James House as well as the cost of care for people who do not have sufficient resources.

“This is a missional community for seniors in the Episcopal Diocese of Texas,” said the Rt. Rev. Jeff Fisher, bishop Suffragan and chair of St. James Board. “It provides a great way to reach out to our episcopal elders, among others, and the care given to our residents is of the highest quality,” he said. “We are grateful for the support of so many people in the Diocese."
