Slate for Bishop Suffragan Announced

The Rev. Hannah E. Atkins Romero, the Rev. Canon Glenice Robinson-Como and the Rev. Canon Kathryn (Kai) Ryan have been approved to stand for election as Bishop Suffragan of the Diocese of Texas, the diocesan Standing Committee announced today. Atkins Romero is Rector of Trinity, Houston; Robinson-Como is Missioner for Outreach and Justice Ministries at Christ Church Cathedral, Houston; and Ryan serves at Canon to the Ordinary and Chief Operating Officer on the diocesan staff.

“After diligent work and prayerful discernment with male and female applicants from inside and outside the Diocese, it was our joy to present these three outstanding candidates for Bishop Suffragan to the Standing Committee for final approval,” said the Rev. Chuck Treadwell, chair of the Search Committee and rector of St. David’s, Austin. The Standing Committee met Monday, November 26 to finalize the slate of candidates.

“Each person brings unique gifts and disposition, and each has secular and church experience that makes them qualified to do the work of this particular office,” Treadwell said, adding, “Each would work well with Bishop Andy Doyle and complement the gifts of our other bishops and diocesan staff,” he said.

“The Standing Committee today approved three candidates brought forward by the Search Committee,” said Dave Bollinger, chair of the Standing Committee and a member of Good Shepherd, Tomball.  “We all look forward to working with whomever the Holy Spirit and the people of our Diocese choose to serve as our next Bishop Suffragan,” he added.

There is a petition process for any final candidates open from 9 a.m. CST on Tuesday, November 27, closing five business days after, on December 3 at 5 p.m. CST. The Instructions may be found here.
