Soul of a Musician is More than Performance

St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, Austin, in collaboration with the Iron Cactus Mexican Grill, announced the guest musicians for its weekly Soul of a Musician series in June.  The series transforms the restaurant into a family-friendly listening room where Austin’s finest musicians can explore their music’s spiritual dimensions and where the audience can discover and support the musicians’ talent.

The Rev. Merrill Wade, rector of St. Matthew’s interviews the featured musicians in between songs about their writing process and how spirituality features in their musical gifts. As described by Austin musician Guy Forsyth, each performance is “… not just a show. You will hear a lot of music, but we also have a conversation about the music, why and how the songs are written.  If music is a spiritual tool for you, no matter what your beliefs, the Soul of a Musician Series may be a place for you to explore.”

Wade has been invited for several years to hold a seminar for musicians at Austin’s famed South by Southwest (SXSW) annual gathering.

There is no cover charge for the Soul of a Musician Series at the Iron Cactus Mexican Grill and Margarita Bar, 10001 Stonelake Blvd., Austin, and plenty of free parking is available. Sunday evenings in June, 6:30-7:45 p.m. June artists include:
