Recently launched with performances by Wendy Colonna, future shows include: Erin Ivey on March 10, March 17 and March 24; Elizabeth McQueen on April 7 and April 14; Guy Forsyth on April 21 and April 28; Matt Wilson on May 5 and May 12; and Jeff Lofton on June 9. The music begins at 7:30 p.m., is free and open to the public, and Spicewood Tavern offers its full food and bar menu each evening.

"It's a wonderful opportunity to explore universal themes of seasons and spirituality through the lens of songwriters from our amazing and abundant musical community," says Colonna.

Erin Ivey agrees. "The Soul of a Musician Series is a unique opportunity to explore creativity and spirituality together. We'll get deeper into the music than typical live performances allow. As any music-lover knows, the deeper you go, the deeper it gets," she says.

The Rector of St. Matthew's, The Rev. Merrill Wade, has a particular interest in local music and a deep respect for the musicians themselves. He will be speaking at SXSW 2013 on the panel "Into the Mystic: Secular Music as a Quest for More" (see  http://schedule.sxsw.com/2013/events/event_MP969 ). Wade coordinates the Soul of a Musician Series and is the host of most of the gatherings.

"Our desire is to offer hospitality. We want folks to have a great spiritual experience with the music and the artists. Expect to have a unique eyeball-to-eyeball and heart-to-heart that's different than going to a big venue." Wade says.

St. Matthew's supports local musicians by hosting an annual Health Alliance for Austin Musicians Benefit Day Concert. In that same spirit, the Soul of a Musician Series is intended to thank and offer support for musicians and all they mean to Austin and to the church.

St. Matthew's is located at the corner of Steck Ave. and Mesa Dr., and playfully called "The Live Music Capital of Northwest Austin." Since there is much less live music in Northwest Austin than other parts of town, St. Matthew's is pleased to bring Austin's finest musicians to fans in a different area of the city.
