St. Aidan's, Cypress, held their annual Fall Festival on Sunday, combining a pet blessing with a 'Trunk or Treat' event in which children trick or treat at the trunks of decorated vehicles in the parking lot.

The event, which added a pet blessing for the first time, was a big success. Pup Squad Animal Rescue brought several dogs to offer for adoption and a blessing, and St. Aidan's collected cash and goods to donate. By the end of the event, several dogs had new homes.

Children donned costumes of all varieties and collected candy, often times with a costumed dog in tow. Volunteers offered face painting, hot dogs, and apple cider, and St. Aidan's also debuted their new choir.

Interim rector, the Rev. Lisa Saunders, and the Rev. Warren Miedke, deacon, offered blessings on the pets, including a bunny, a guinea pig, and several dogs and cats.

"I was told that last year we only had a few animals to bless, but this year we had at least 30," Saunders said. "We had a lot of people from the community turnout which is a great thing."
