St. Alban's, Waco, a Model for Growth

St. Alban's, Waco, recently welcomed retired Bishop of Texas, the Rt. Rev. Claude Payne for an inspiring number of confirmations. The parish welcomed 19 confirmations on May 19 along with three receptions and four reaffirmations.

St. Alban's has an average Sunday attendance of around 185, up 60 percent since 2005, just before the Rev. Jeff Fisher took over as rector. Much of the turnaround can be traced to the creation of the St. Alban's Outreach Center after the church was forced to close their school

"Jeff is really giving superb leadership," said Bishop Payne. "He inherited a school in deep, deep trouble, which was a sacred cow. He lead the parish into realizing the school had to close, and also through a process of what they could do with the vacated space. [This confirmation] represents growth in breadth (outreach) and depth (formation) as well as number."
