St. Andrew's Lenten PhotoFast Brings Focus to Lent

Liberatore sent out this list of words for each day

The congregation of St. Andrew's, Pearland, is using photography and social media to stay focused during Lent. Dubbed a "PhotoFast," church members are asked to take a photo that represents a word of the day and send it in the the rector, the Rev. Jim Liberatore. Then, Liberatore posts the photos online via Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

"We wanted people to pay attention to God in their lives, even in the most mundane places," Liberatore said. "A lot of times we just compartmentalize God to Sundays, but this helps us focus during Lent."

The 40-day event has gathered about 20 participants, including some people who don't even go to the church. Sometimes the prompt is a serious word like "Peace" or "Humility," but other times it is a little more fun like, "Joy."

"We were thinking about how to involve people who don't normally participate in Lenten activities," Liberatore said. "We just wanted people to realize that God is at work in your life."

Participants have gotten creative with their posts. To see the creativity, follow Liberatore on Twitter here or Instagram here or find him on Facebook.
