St. David's to Host Egg Hunt for Homeless Families on Capitol Lawn

St. David's Episcopal Church, Austin, will host an Easter egg hunt on the front lawn of the Capitol this Saturday, April 12, for children who are living with their families at the Salvation Army. Through the efforts of St. David’s parishioners, each child will receive an Easter basket they can fill with eggs, candy, and prizes.

“This is an outreach effort that we began more than five years ago in response to Jesus’ call to care for our brothers and sisters who are in a time of need,” said the Rev. David Boyd, Rector of St. David’s. “We hope that those who serve, those who receive, and those who witness this offering will be touched by the offering of hope, joy, and abundance as we celebrate Easter.”

Following the hunt, parishioners from St. David’s will spread out around Austin and embark on a “Day of Service” which will include nine different projects. St. David’s children and their families will help plant a vegetable garden at El Buen Samaritano, and St. David’s teens will host a day of track and field games for Foundation Communities at an affordable housing complex.

“This is a special day that allows us to work with other non-profit organizations in Austin who serve those in need,” said Diana Dawson, Director of Community Engagement at St. David’s. “Not only are we supporting people, we are supporting local organizations with the added benefit of deepening our own sense of community.”
