St. Francis', Houston, Hosts Spiritual Quest

Spiritual QuestWhen long-time St. Francis', Houston, parishioner Mary Beth Wurts, 83, set her sights on creating a memorial for the late Dr. Richard Austin, she didn’t go the usual route. Five years ago, with the help of her friends, the ambitious widow enthusiastically launched the Spiritual Quest.

“Friends suggested a plaque or a piece of art to hang in the church building,” she said. “But Richard’s outreach had been so spiritual, so personal and unique. I just had to do better.”

The Spiritual Quest is an annual speaker series held in October to coincide with the feast of the patron saint of St. Francis Church.

“Each year The Quest seeks to inspire and teach us how to practice a more Christ-centered daily life in more concrete and structured ways,” said Wurts.

On Oct 5-6, this year’s keynote speaker is Richard Foster, author and founder of RENOVARÉ, an international spiritual renewal ministry. The theme for 2012 is “The Grand Invitation…walking with God day by day.” Before Sept. 10, the fee is $65. After, the fee is $75.

“To purchase a luncheon table for eight or nine guests is $500 and includes every activity,” said Leiselle Sadler, co-chair of the Quest.  “It is a spiritual way to honor close friends who are striving to reflect Christ’s teachings.”
