Two St. Francis Episcopal Day School eighth graders recently traveled to Livermore, CA, with their Post Oak Little League team to take a swing at the inaugural Little League Intermediate World Series title. Blake Fertitta, Michael McKean and their team members enjoyed a remarkable run in the July 30–August 5 series, topping teams from across the country to make it into the U.S. championship game on Sunday, August 4.

The Houston sluggers faced challengers from Pennsylvania, North Carolina and California before Sunday’s heartbreaking 5-4 loss to Collier Township/Chartiers Valley Little League of Collier Township, PA—a team they’d beaten earlier in the tournament. The Collier Township team then took on the Izumisano Little League team from Osaka, Japan, in the world title game on Monday, falling to the team that had traveled the farthest for the contest.

The Post Oak Little League team members include Fertitta, McKean, Andrew Alvarez, Kris Brolan, Dillon Burr, Harrison Cascadden, Will Edens, Hill Johnson, Will Kunetka, Robert McHenry, Hayden Rome, Nick Smith, Jack Thompson and Ben Vaughan.

St. Francis salutes Blake, Michael and the entire Post Oak team for the outstanding skill, poise, and heart they exhibited over the course of the competition.
