St. James' House Names Interim Director

The St. James’ House board of trustees announced May 22 that it had hired an interim executive director to replace Merrilee Hawk, who resigned earlier in May to help care for an ailing parent. Hawk has only been at St. James’ since January 3.

“The board felt an interim would allow us to do a thorough search and will assure the positive momentum established under Ms. Hawk’s leadership,” said Kathy Tellepsen, chair of the board. She said the board had hired Tom Zwicker of Germantown, Wisconsin, to serve until a permanent director is found.

“Mr. Zwicker is a dynamic leader with a lot of nursing home experience,” Tellepsen said. “He has particular skills in organizational leadership, communications, human relations and financial management,” she added.

While the board continues the search for a director, Tellepsen said the board was very happy to have Zwicker on site. “He’s a consummate professional and will help us focus on making our facility a house model with resident-centered care. We want to provide the best care in the Houston area,” she said.

The search for a permanent executive director will take place later this year, Tellepsen noted.
