St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital Ranked No. 2 in Texas

St. Luke's Hospital nightWith more than 600 hospitals in the state of Texas, St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in Houston ranks No. 2 according to the U.S. New & World Report. Only Houston's Methodist Hospital, just down the street from St. Luke's, ranked higher. St. Luke's also ranked as the No. 6 cardiology hospital in the nation, the 22nd consecutive year to be ranked in the top 10 of the specialty.

“This recognition reflects nearly five decades dedicated to reducing the devastating toll of cardiovascular disease through innovative programs in research, education and improved patient care,” said James T. Willerson, MD, THI president and medical director. “The commitment of the physicians, nurses and staff has helped Texas Heart Institute at St. Luke’s remain one of the nation’s best centers for cardiovascular care for more than 20 years.”

St. Luke's ranked nationally in 10 specialties including: diabetes; ear, nose & throat; gastroenterology; pulmonology; neurology; urology; orthopedics; nephrology; and geriatrics. Though no Texas hospital ranked overall in the nation's top 10, St. Luke's rankings in 10 of 16 specialties surveyed is more than any other Texas hospital except for Methodist Hospital. St. Luke's also ranked as "high performing" in the specialties of cancer and gynecology.

“At St. Luke’s, our priority is providing compassionate, Faithful, Loving Care® to our patients and their families,” said Margaret M. Van Bree, DrPH, CEO, SLEH, and senior vice president, St. Luke’s Episcopal Health System. “This honor acknowledges our commitment to clinical excellence and exceptional patient care.”

St. Luke’s The Woodlands Hospital (SLWH) also received recognition from U.S. News & World Report. Ranked among the top 30 hospitals in the state, SLWH was named one of Houston’s top 10 hospitals and was designated high-performing in Neurology & Neurosurgery and Orthopedics.

According their website, the "U.S. News surveyed nearly 10,000 specialists and sifted through data for approximately 5,000 hospitals to rank the best in 16 adult specialties, from cancer to urology. Death rates, patient safety, and hospital reputation were a few of the factors considered. Only 148 hospitals were nationally ranked in one or more specialties." To learn more about the U.S. News rankings, click here.
