St. Luke's on the Lake Welcomes Disaster Zone Baptist Pastor

Wes White

Pastor Wes White hugs a church
member following services.

After several trips to Mississippi and Alabama delivering cash, goods and supplies, St. Luke's on the Lake looks to welcome Wes White, the pastor of Smithville, Mississippi Baptist Church on July 8-10. St. Luke's junior warden Allen Griswold has worked closely with White as St. Luke's works to meet the needs of the rural town virtually wiped away be an April tornado.

White will visit and tell the story of his community in an effort to raise funds for the recovery and put a face to the suffering. He will speak to the Men of St. Luke's breakfast meeting at 8 a.m. on Saturday July 9, and he will be the guest preacher at all three services on Sunday, July 10. Everyone is invited, but please contact the church office if you plan to attend the breakfast meeting at 512.266.2455.

Griswold and parishioner Tom Wood recently made another trip to Mississippi, delivering $600 in Lowe's gift cards as well as a new hearing aid for a legally deaf woman.

St. Luke's on the Lake had already donated a car for the high school's driver's education program, a hearing aid for a legally deaf man and cash along with food and other goods on three previous trips. They were featured on Austin TV in June.

The church plans to visit again in mid-July and is asking for more Lowe's gift cards or cash to help with rebuild needs. For more information or to donate to this effort visit www.stlukesonthelake.org

Additionally, a group of Mississippi Episcopalians are planning a rebuild of one family's home starting Saturday, July 9. A group from the Diocese of Texas will be leaving on July 15 to help with the blitz build through the July 22. Click here for more information.
