St. Martin's, Houston, Fields 586 for Outreach

On Sunday, March 27, 586 parishioners from St. Martin’s joined community social service agencies for a day of hands-on ministry. Members worked on campus and off site with groups that were affiliated with a parishioner or received funding from St. Martins.

Parishioners packaged more than 700 hygiene kits, made 1000 Kidsmeal sandwiches and 250 care packages for homeless ministries, knitted prayer shawls and made blankets for newborns. They wrote 104 cards to children from Camp Good News, donated blood and gathered 80 backpacks for orphans in Bolivia.

Other members spread out throughout Houston to serve residents of New Hope Housing, the Beacon, Westside Homeless Partnership, Open Door Mission, Covenant House, Yellowstone Academy, Holly Hall Retirement Community and many other social service agencies.

"We loved meeting other church members that we normally would not get a chance to know and most importantly, we loved the sense of getting our hands working for others," said one parishioner.

Organizers said the planned effort “introduced a lot of parishioners to outreach in a way that is not as difficult as approaching service individually.”
