St. Stephen’s Episcopal School is pleased to announce the members of the Class of 2019 who have been recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corp. and the National Hispanic Recognition Program for their strong academic performance on the October 2017 PSAT. Among them, 13 seniors were named National Merit Semifinalists, 14 were honored as National Merit Commended students, and six were named National Hispanic Recognition Program scholars.
St. Stephen’s National Merit Semifinalists include Lauren Aung, Emma Breckwoldt, Philip Chang, Veer Chauhan, Jordan Cobb, Audrey Czuchna, Travis Dowd, Kristen Hanks, Brett Lin, Ben McCord, James Mohn, Siofra Murdoch and Katya Shmorhun. These seniors have the opportunity to continue in the competition for National Merit $2,500 Scholarships, corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards and college-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards.
The school’s National Merit Commended students include David Allen, Ella Benjamin, Will Dure, Aidan Ellis, Jacob Hale, Kailey Hicks, Gary Hu, Josh Lafair, David Lucid, Zachary Routh, Elizabeth Rowe, Ben Sabra, Lavanya Sankaran and Haley Stilp. These students placed among the top 5 percent of the more than 1.6 million students who entered the competition.
In addition, seniors Audrey Czuchna, Ian Hutchison, Sofia Otero, Jenna Rogge, Ben Sabra and Gracie Salomon were named National Hispanic Recognition Program scholars.
“Congratulations to these Spartan seniors for their many achievements,” said Head of School Chris Gunnin. “Like so many St. Stephen’s students, these senior honorees have a deep love of learning, are engaged community members, are supportive teammates and classmates, and value service to others. We are tremendously proud of them.”
