St. Stephen's Welcomes Students For New School Year

The St. Stephen’s Episcopal School campus has been abuzz for the last few weeks, as faculty and staff finalize preparations for the start of school. Boarding students from across the country and around the world will begin moving into their residential halls next week. A few days later, they will be joined on campus by area day students for the school’s annual Back-to-School Day, held on Monday, Aug. 25. “St. Stephen’s is pleased to welcome its new and returning students to campus for the start of the academic year,” said Head of School Bob Kirkpatrick. “Every year I am amazed and delighted to witness the intellectual growth and creative development of our unique community of students. I cannot wait to see how their academic skills and personal talents will reveal themselves and develop this year.”

A college preparatory school serving grades 6 through 12, St. Stephen’s is a diverse coeducational boarding and day school of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas. For the 2014-15 academic year, the school provided $2.2 million dollars in need-based financial aid to 14 percent of its students.

St. Stephen’s diverse student body comprises 684 students from numerous cities across Texas, as well as Louisiana, Oklahoma, New York, Connecticut, Florida, Colorado, New Mexico, Maryland, Virginia and Kansas. International students represent more than 15 countries, including Canada, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Bahama Islands, Egypt, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, China and Korea. Among the 492 students in Upper School and 192 in Middle School, 508 are day students and 176 are boarders. “As our mission states, members of this inclusive school community strive to live intelligently, creatively and humanely as contributing citizens of the world,” Kirkpatrick added. “The students passing through our gates next week represent the very best of that vision.”
