Strategic Mission Grant Committee Announces Changes For Upcoming Grant Cycle

The Strategic Ministry Grant Committee would like to make a special announcement regarding the SMG Grant Cycle for 2017:

The Strategic Ministry Grant Committee (SMG) recognizes that the SMG program must be re-developed in order to best align its focus with Bishop Doyle’s missional vision for the Diocese of Texas. This includes developing a new set of grant guidelines and application process, educating congregations on what types of initiatives the new SMG program will target and how to effectively communicate what the Committee is looking for in the grant proposals. Much of this focus is centered on funding initiatives that involve active engagement by our congregations with their respective communities to develop a program that impacts a wider segment of the local population. Naturally, such an extensive redevelopment process will be lengthy and is expected to extend into the first part of 2017.

After several months of discussion, deliberation, and prayer, the SMG Committee has unanimously approved the following:

  1. Temporarily pause all SMG funding for attractional church initiatives.
  2. Temporarily pause the annual SMG Workshop
  3. Continue to seek and fund emerging missional communities in 2016. These are initiatives that involve leaving a campus to implement a mission focused endeavor, which often involves working closely with community leaders or those engaged in an effort to directly touch and improve the lives in their community.

As the Committee continues to work through this redevelopment process, we will distribute information to all congregations regarding the status and timing of the opening of the next SMG grant cycle.

The SMG Committee thanks you in advance for your patience and invites you to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

Faithfully,
