THE Conference Returns for 2014, Wardens & Vestry Conference Moves to 3-Year Rotation

Following a successful inaugural event last May, the Diocese of Texas will again combine several offerings into one dynamic conference, May 2-4, 2014 at Camp Allen. THE Conference combines previous evangelism, stewardship and formation conferences into one event with plenaries, seminars and workshops from which participants may choose. This the Bishop of Atlanta, the Rt. Rev. Rob Wright, will deliver the keynote address.

Last year’s round table presentations/discussions were so well received; more have been added to the schedule for this May. 20 topics will be set up at tables in All Saints Chapel and participants will move from one to another three times (20 minutes each) in order to share a broad range of information.

Besides plenary presentations, two and a half hour seminars or one hour workshops will also allow participants to go more deeply into evangelism, stewardship or formation programs available. Featured speakers include: the Rev. Eric Law, the Rev. Jamie Clark-Soles and the Rev. Scott Bader-Saye. Workshop presenters include Mary Palmer, the Rev. Linda Grenz, Trish Taylor and several others. Compline and book signings will also be held.

In order for congregations to bring teams of leaders, the Diocese will supplement registration costs. Lodging, food and the program will be $175 for lay registrants and $125 for clergy. Pre-registration is required. All prices are for double occupancy, no single rooms are available as THE Conference sells out quickly.

Conference check-in opens at 4 p.m. on Friday and will conclude with worship on Sunday morning. Lunch Sunday is also provided. For questions about registration, contact Heather Lundy at Camp Allen, 936.825.7175,

For questions about THE Conference, contact Julie Heath at the Diocesan Center, 713.353.2125,

Wardens & Vestry Conferences will now be held every three years to provide vestry members an opportunity to attend once during their usual three-year term. While these were previously offered annually, many of the workshops are moving to online video in order to be available more broadly and conveniently.

Additionally, the diocesan staff will continue to work to design more cost effective ways to deliver essential information and training. An online Wardens’ and Vestry Resource Library will include many of the workshops in video such as: Roles & Responsibilities, Financial Oversight and Leadership and Best Practices. Offerings from across the church and the Episcopal Church Foundation (ECF) will also be available in order to provide the latest, most beneficial training to our leadership.

In the meantime, we invite you to participate in the webinar Vestry Orientation on Tuesday, February 18sponsored by the ECF. Click here to register and for more information. There is no charge. Space is limited so register soon.
