Three New Strategic Mission Grants Awarded

The Strategic Mission Grant Committee awarded three new grants, the first under the new platform.

  1. Christ Church, Nacogdoches - $48,000 grant paid over three years to support the Independence Manor Missional Community.  Independence Manor is a low-income, HUD apartment complex serving tenants who have physical disabilities.
  2. St. Francis, Tyler - $45,000 grant paid over three years to support the “Just As I Am” Missional Community that ministers to groups that have not been a part of a Christian community (the young and unchurched, the LGBTQ community, and those who have been marginalized)
  3. St. Thomas the Apostle, Houston - $60,000 grant paid over three years to support a ministry that revolves around tabletop role playing games (RPGs) that embrace the Christian experience and community building that welcomes those who have not been a part traditional church.

“We are so excited about the new phase of the Strategic Mission Grants that stresses out-of-the-box thinking for our congregations to develop innovative ways to reach their neighbors to be a part of a Christian community in the ethos of our Episcopal tradition,” said David Fisher, director foundations at The Episcopal Diocese of Texas.

“These communities tap into real and profound personal and spiritual needs.  We look forward to sharing the success stories that will emerge from the outstanding work of these congregations that were awarded grants,” Fisher said. “We are most appreciative of the outstanding leadership provided by the Co-chairs of the Strategic Mission Grants Committee: Flo Ray from the Episcopal Foundation of Texas and Karla Randle-Schapansky from the Bishop Quin Foundation, who is retiring from her Co-chair position at the end of 2017.”
