Trinity, The Woodlands, Hosts Veterans Day Service

WWIIIn 1918, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the world celebrated. After 4 years of bitter war, an armistice was signed and the “war to end all wars” was over. In France, England and Washington D.C., at Arlington National Cemetery, an unknown soldier was buried to commemorate the end of the World War I fighting. A U.S. Congressional Resolution in 1926 named it “Armistice Day.” Twelve years later it became a national holiday.  With the intention of honoring all veterans, President Eisenhower signed a bill in 1954 changing the name to Veterans Day.

To mark the day, Lord of Life Lutheran Church and Trinity Episcopal Church will unite to hold a Veterans Day Service of Recognition and Remembrance on Thursday, November 10 at 7 p.m. All veterans, military families and community members are invited to attend to honor our veterans, past and present. Flag bearers, patriotic hymns, prayers for peace, and the special music of combined choirs, the Statesmen Chorus and the Cadwallader Family will make the service one to remember. During the service, veterans will be asked to stand if they desire to be recognized.

A representative from the Veterans Administration Medical Center will comment on the needs of veterans, and offerings from the service will go to The Social Work Emergency Welfare Fund at the Michael E. DeBakey Hospital.

The service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3901 South Panther Creek Drive in The Woodlands.  All ages and faith traditions are welcome to attend. For additional information or directions, contact the church office at 281.367.8113 or visit www.trinitywoodlands.org.
