Trinity Woodlands Converts Campus Lights To Energy Efficient LED's

Trinity, The Woodlands, has given new meaning to the phrase, “Let There be Light”. As part of Trinity’s focus of being good stewards of God’s resources, last year the Vestry approved a plan to convert campus lighting to more energy efficient LED lights. The first phase of new LED lighting was installed by BTM Solutions of the Woodlands in several interior and exterior areas of the Trinity campus late last year.

At that time Entergy, Texas presented the Rev. Gerry Sevick with a rebate check for $3,095.90. Also present at the ceremony were Dan Bullock and Enrique Bendesky representing BTM, Mike Thomson from the Parish Vestry and Ernest Gallegos, Facilities Manager. In addition to the rebate, the new LED lights will reduce Trinity’s electricity costs by almost $8,000 each year and will contribute over $10,000 in new resources for church ministries this year. It will also remove the equivalent of 37.5 metric tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere each year. That reduction in greenhouse gas is the equivalent to the annual emissions of about 8 passenger vehicles, 4,200 gallons of gasoline or two private homes. As the result of the annual energy savings, the first Trinity LED installation will pay for itself in less than 5 years.

The second phase of the conversion has just been completed in the Nave. This new lighting will use 52,665 fewer watts of electricity each service or the equivalent of turning over 875 lights in your house off during each service. They will provide more light while cutting power consumption by 70%, and will last 5-7 times longer than the old lighting. Trinity will save nearly $10,000 in electricity costs and $5,000 in air conditioning usage each year. Trinity will also receive a $7,800 cash rebate from Entergy this year thanks to these conversions. The lighting will pay for itself in about four years while saving over $100,000 every 10 years they are in use.

Trinity was established in 1976 in The Woodlands. A church home to approximately 550 families, Trinity has a range of Outreach Ministries, assisting seniors, families and the homeless in the area. In addition, Trinity houses two programs for children aged 6 weeks through 12 years.
