Tropical Storm Don Projected on Path to Texas

Tropical Storm Don formed near the Yucatan Peninsula late Wednesday afternoon. The storm, which is expected to gain strength, is projected to make landfall on the Texas coast sometime Friday night.

As many Episcopalians have been praying for rain, this weather system may seem like a welcomed event, but the Diocese of Texas urges all parishes to remain cautious. Tropical weather systems of all kinds can cause damaging winds and flooding.

Use this storm as a practice run with your family and parish. Get your disaster kit ready now, back up your computer files and assets and finalize your evacuation plans.

The Diocese of Texas is just three years removed from Hurricane Ike’s devastating impact on the Texas coast. Ike was the third costliest hurricane in U.S. history, and populations along the coast are still dealing with the effects from its huge tidal surge and high winds. EDOT oversaw $2 million worth of rebuilding efforts in Galveston after the storm.

Preparing for the possibility of another storm is essential for all parishes and families. For resources, visit our preparedness page or ready.gov.
