Vera Gang Scott Scholarships for Young Women Deadline March 31

The 2016 Vera Gang Scott Scholarship program of the Episcopal Church Women of Texas is in full swing. Applications for 2016 scholarships are now being accepted and must be received by the no later than March 31, 2016 to be considered.

Vera Gang Scott endowed the scholarship fund with her life savings and the program was established in 1972 by the diocesan ECW. In the 1920's, Scott received aid for her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the women of Trinity, Galveston. She kept careful track of all the money she received and after beginning her career as a social worker, repaid every cent she had received. The aid she repaid became the seed for what became Vera Gang Scott Scholarship Fund. Scott's dream was to help other women, as she had been helped.

Although Scott resided in many states, she always considered herself a Texan. She led an active life as an educator and continued to be involved in service to others. Of all her accomplishments, Scott was extremely proud to have had Vera Scott Elementary School in Colorado Springs named in her honor.

In order to apply for the scholarship, the applicant must be:

  • A female communicant in good standing,
  • Been accepted or is enrolled in an academic institution of college rank
